Description

In this unit students will develop a literature review which builds on their thesis proposal. They will refine and develop their editing skills to produce a finished, polished product.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Confidently investigate and critically discuss past and current major discourses and debates within performing arts research.
  2. Undertake a systematic search for, and critical evaluation of, appropriate and relevant information sources that provide a theoretical or conceptual background to their research topic.
  3. Identify the predominant critical concepts, conceptual questions, theoretical frameworks or gaps in the literature pertinent to their field of practice within the performing arts.
  4. Confidently communicate ideas and arguments using appropriate academic writing conventions.

Unit Content

  1. Major debates in performing arts research.
  2. Conceptual/theoretical frameworks of performing arts research.
  3. Evaluation of research literature.
  4. Advanced academic writing skills.

Learning Experience

Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECUs LMS
