Description

This unit extends upon the Unit 'Evidence Based Practice Applied to Midwifery' and enables students to critically consider the principles that underpin the characteristics, implications and boundaries of an extended clinical role in a chosen area of midwifery. In doing so students will be supported to undertake a small project relevant to their place of employment or relevant clinical setting.

Prerequisite Rule

Students must pass 2 units from MID6102, MIP6202

Co-Requisite Rule

Must be enrolled in course version I80

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Develop a project plan to address clinically relevant issues within the practice setting.
  2. Identify and monitor health trends, current practice and the need for change in a selected midwifery setting.
  3. Prepare a report about a clinical project undertaken.
  4. Synthesise findings and demonstrate potential contribution to practice.

Unit Content

  1. Cost benefit analysis.
  2. Formatting a report.
  3. Individualised support in undertaking a project.
  4. Institutional ethics requirements.
  5. Project management principles including initiation, planning and design, execution, monitoring and completion.
  6. Undertaking a clinical audit.
  7. Use of technology to support project management.

Learning Experience

Students will engage in learning experiences through ECU Blackboard as well as additional ECU learning technologies.

Additional Learning Experience Information

In consultation with the supervisor, students will develop an outline project plan that addresses relevant outcomes. The content and resources specific to completing the project will be identified, and strategies and time frames determined.

GS1 GRADING SCHEMA 1 Used for standard coursework units

Students please note: The marks and grades received by students on assessments may be subject to further moderation. All marks and grades are to be considered provisional until endorsed by the relevant Board of Examiners.

Due to the professional competency skill development associated with this Unit, student attendance/participation within listed in-class activities and/or online activities including discussion boards is compulsory. Students failing to meet participation standards as outlined in the unit plan may be awarded an I Grade (Fail - incomplete). Students who are unable to meet this requirement for medical or other reasons must seek the approval of the unit coordinator.
