Description

This unit will enable students to investigate at depth a specific and relevant marketing research topic. Students select the topic through negotiation with their supervisor and the topic may be applied within an organisation of their choice. Students then conduct a research investigation including undertaking a literature review, collecting and analysing data and preparing a research report. Students can prepare for their research unit through studying MKT6310 Marketing Research. This unit will provide them with the necessary understanding and skills of the research process to undertake their project within the time span of the semester.

Series of scheduled meetings between student and supervisor.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Critique contemporary literature related to a designated marketing topic to inform the design of a research project.
  2. Develop research objectives to inform management decision making in the context of a marketing issue.
  3. Design an appropriate methodology that will inform management decision making within the context of a marketing issue.
  4. Execute the data collection, analysis and reporting of a marketing research project with clear strategic outcomes.

  1. Relevant marketing theory based on the semesters topic.
  2. Critiquing secondary data.
  3. Contemporary market research methodologies.
  4. Appropriate application of research methodologies.
  5. Differentiation of qualitative and quantitative research approaches.
  6. Data administration and techniques.
  7. Research instrument development.
  8. Appropriate analytical techniques.
  9. Making strategic recommendations and outcomes arising from data analysis.

Learning Experience

Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU Blackboard.
