Description

This unit develops students ability to identify and synthesise relevant evidence in disaster, emergency or health practice. Students will navigate the process of undertaking a systematic review. This includes the development of an answerable research question, conducting a comprehensive search of the literature, identifying and analysing relevant literature, and finally presenting their findings in a completed systematic review.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Evaluate published disaster, emergency or health research literature to inform practice and guide independent decision-making.
  2. Apply knowledge of research methodology to identify evidence gaps and opportunities for further research in disaster, emergency, or health practice fields.
  3. Construct a systematic review of disaster, emergency or health literature to communicate relevant evidence to diverse audiences.
  4. Construct a systematic review of disaster, emergency or health literature to improve patient care and management in professional paramedic environments.

Additional Learning Experience Information

Students are required to actively participate in online discussion activities during the semester. Students critically evaluate current literature related to disaster, emergency or health practice. Validated research frameworks are used to expand students' knowledge of evidence evaluation in disaster, emergency or health practice research. Online presentations are embedded throughout the learning modules providing students with opportunity to learn from a range of disaster, emergency or health practice professionals.

Unauthorised collaboration (collusion)

Working with other students and submitting the same or substantially similar work or portions of work when an individual submission was required. This includes students knowingly providing others with copies of their own work to use in the same or similar assessment task(s).

Contract cheating

Organising a friend, a family member, another student or an external person or organisation (e.g. through an online website) to complete or substantially edit or refine part or all of an assessment task(s) on their behalf.

Cheating in an exam

Using or having access to unauthorised materials in an exam or test.

Serious outcomes may be imposed if a student is found to have committed one of these breaches, up to and including expulsion from the University for repeated or serious acts.
