Description

This unit will support students to develop their investigative and inquiry skills by implementing and managing a small independent research project. Students will report the outcomes of the project with recommendations for clinical practice and further research. Students will develop knowledge and skills in the empirical process, ethical conduct and cultural safety in research.

Prerequisite Rule

Must have completed MNP6101 Evidence Based Practice and Research Design or MHP6100 Master's Project Proposal

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Conduct an empirical review or investigation.
  2. Analyse the human research ethical and cultural considerations appropriate for their chosen project.
  3. Project manage an empirical inquiry project.
  4. Analyse and synthesize project findings to formulate conclusions and recommendations for practice.
  5. Publish the outcomes of the inquiry process.

Unit Content

  1. Presentation and dissemination of findings in a variety of contexts.
  2. Guidelines on ethical issues in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health research.
  3. Strategies necessary for operationalising and project managing a research study.
  4. Collecting data according to the requirements of methodology and research design.
  5. Approaches to analysis of numerical and qualitative data.
  6. Mediums for reporting outcomes of empirical and review based research.

Students failing to meet participation standards as outlined in the unit plan may be awarded an I Grade (Fail - incomplete).
