Description

Learning through hands-on production work, in this unit students will work in collaboration with WAAPA actors to create scripted screen projects such as drama, comedy or fantasy. Students will learn about the variety of roles available for crew on scripted projects and the creative materials required in the development stage of a screen production. By undertaking a crew role of their choice during the production stage of a variety of scripted projects, students will learn the tasks, responsibilities and collaboration skills involved in creating industry-standard screen productions.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Communicate effectively to perform the relevant tasks and responsibilities of a key crew member in a professional setting on a scripted project.
  2. Critically reflect on the strategic and operational responsibilities of a Head of Department role on a scripted production to enhance screen project management skills.
  3. Collaborate effectively as a member of a team working in a professional setting with advanced communication and teamwork skills.
  4. Apply high-level judgement and management skills to appropriately manage schedules, documentation and reporting on the creative process during the creation of a scripted project.

  1. Key roles and responsibilities of a safe screen production set.
  2. Strategic and operational responsibilities of a Head of Department role.
  3. On-set filmmaking practices.
  4. Screen production documentation and terminologies.
  5. Teamwork skills specific to development, pre-production and production stages of a scripted project.

Additional Learning Experience Information

In addition to participating in timetabled classes, students will need to be available to participate in some intensive screen production creation process during the teaching period. The screen production schedule will be made available to students at the beginning of the teaching period.

Plagiarism

Copying the words, ideas or creative works of other people or generative artificial intelligence tools, without referencing in accordance with stated University requirements. Students need to seek approval from the Unit Coordinator within the first week of study if they intend to use some of their previous work in an assessment task (self-plagiarism).

Unauthorised collaboration (collusion)

Working with other students and submitting the same or substantially similar work or portions of work when an individual submission was required. This includes students knowingly providing others with copies of their own work to use in the same or similar assessment task(s).

Contract cheating

Organising a friend, a family member, another student or an external person or organisation (e.g. through an online website) to complete or substantially edit or refine part or all of an assessment task(s) on their behalf.

Cheating in an exam

Using or having access to unauthorised materials in an exam or test.

Serious outcomes may be imposed if a student is found to have committed one of these breaches, up to and including expulsion from the University for repeated or serious acts.

Assessment Extension
