Description

This unit establishes a foundational level of practical skill and discipline knowledge in the areas of musicianship, and spoken and sung vocal technique. Students are introduced to the tools required to analyse and plan their own vocal development, and reflect on this development in a series of practical voice applications.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Identify and interpret technical musical elements in written and aural musical content.
  2. Explore the fundamentals of legitimate vocal technique.
  3. Describe the breathing system and process of vocalisation.
  4. Define key elements of vocalisation: alignment, support, vibration, resonance and articulation.
  5. Identify and adapt idiosyncratic habitual vocal use.

Unit Content

  1. Technical singing lessons.
  2. Group classes in technical voice.
  3. Classes in music theory, aural and keyboard.
  4. Performance practice class.

Learning Experience

Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU's LMS

Organising a friend, a family member, another student or an external person or organisation (e.g. through an online website) to complete or substantially edit or refine part or all of an assessment task(s) on their behalf.

Cheating in an exam

Using or having access to unauthorised materials in an exam or test.

Serious outcomes may be imposed if a student is found to have committed one of these breaches, up to and including expulsion from the University for repeated or serious acts.
