Description

This unit builds on foundation skills established in previous studies by introducing more complex and integrated application of aural and theoretical skills. Music theory extends to basic harmonic structures, minor modes and form. Keyboard work includes simple triadic chord-reading, sight-reading and accompaniment styles.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate aural awareness and apply aural skills.
  2. Demonstrate and apply an understanding of diatonic harmony and basic seventh structures.
  3. Demonstrate developing keyboard technique.

Unit Content

  1. Aural skill development.
  2. Application of music theory.
  3. Staff notation.
  4. Keyboard accompaniment.
  5. Sight singing.
  6. Singing in parts.
  7. Basic harmony.

Learning Experience

Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU Blackboard.
