Description

Students will undertake an historical and aesthetical study of film music to prepare them for the theoretical aspect of scoring and/or sound design for film or video. Along with composing or sourcing the score, students will undertake synchronisation of the music and/or sound design to picture. The film genre is open and students will be encouraged to be innovative and experimental.

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Analyse the role of sound and music in contemporary film and video.
  2. Compose or source a musical score and/or sound design for a film or video.
  3. Discuss the historical, and aesthetical development of sound in film culture.
  4. Edit, mix and synchronise a score and/or sound design to picture.
