Description

This unit enables students to improve and demonstrate their foundational instrumental, interpretive and technical skills. Contemporary Music styles will be studied and students will continue to develop a practice and performance repertoire. The unit will focus on individual performance and skills with an emphasis on presentation.

Prerequisite Rule

Students must pass 1 units from MUS1425

Equivalent Rule

Unit was previously coded MUS1415

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Create effective solos in an appropriate context using theoretical concepts.
  2. Demonstrate instrumental technique at technical level one.
  3. Evaluate musical performances.
  4. Memorise and interpret the year one core repertoire (Contemporary Music).

Unit Content

  1. Basic interaction methods.
  2. Core repertoire.
  3. Interpretive and aesthetic techniques appropriate to the Contemporary Music genre.
  4. Performance presentation from a practical and critical perspective.
  5. Practice conventions and instrumental roles.
  6. Technical studies.

Learning Experience

Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU Blackboard.

Students please note: The marks and grades received by students on assessments may be subject to further moderation. All marks and grades are to be considered provisional until endorsed by the relevant Board of Examiners.

Due to the professional competency skill development associated with this Unit, student attendance/participation within listed in-class activities and/or online activities including discussion boards is compulsory. Students failing to meet participation standards as outlined in the unit plan may be awarded an I Grade (Fail - incomplete). Students who are unable to meet this requirement for medical or other reasons must seek the approval of the unit coordinator.
