Description

This unit continues to develop fundamental interpretive and technical skills on an instrument (or voice type) of the students choice. Technical skills are consolidated through the performance of repertoire from a variety of historical periods. The student continues to develop skills in performance and criticism. Individual performance skills will be studied with an emphasis on presentation.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate technical and interpretative ability on their instrument/voice type at technical level two.
  2. Evaluate musical performances.
  3. Perform a varied programme of solo works in a variety of styles.
  4. Perform in a solo setting.

Unit Content

  1. Level two solo repertoire.
  2. Performance criticism.
  3. Performing in front of an audience of the students peers.
  4. The repertoire and history of the students instrument/vocal type.

Learning Experience

Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU Blackboard.

Description

This unit builds on the student’s technical and interpretive skills. Students implement effective practice routines and extend their repertoire through lessons, workshops and concert practice classes. Dialogue, discussion and feedback continue to build critical self-awareness, helping students to define their own musical personality. Skills in performance and essential musicianship are implemented and rehearsed.

  1. Apply core repertoire and essential musicianship skills required for solo performances.
  2. Perform competently in a solo setting.

  2. The repertoire and history of the student’s instrument/vocal type.
  3. Instrumental/vocal techniques and stylistic requirements for performance.
  4. Performing in front of an audience of the student’s peers.
  5. Elementary performance criticism.
