Description

This unit enables students to further improve their instrumental, improvisational, interpretive and technical skills. The students will begin to plan and manage a practice and performance repertoire. The unit will focus on the continued development of both individual and group performance skills with an emphasis on presentation.

Prerequisite Rule

Students must pass MUS1322

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Memorise and implement selected repertoire.
  2. Apply appropriate rehearsal practices.
  3. Construct improvised solos over core repertoire implementing theoretical concepts discussed.
  4. Demonstrate the role of the students instrument in the Jazz Ensemble.
  5. Perform in a small ensemble and solo setting.
  6. Produce appropriate critical reviews of musical performances.

Unit Content

  1. Selected jazz repertoire.
  2. Apply aesthetic techniques appropriate to the small group ensemble performance.
  3. Demonstrate conventions and instrumental roles appropriate to the small group jazz ensemble.
  4. Established improvisation and interaction methods.
  5. Produce performances from a practical and critical perspective.

Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECUs LMS
