Description

This unit aims to further develop proficiency in instrumental, improvisational, interpretive and technical skills. Students will continue to plan and manage a practice routine and performance repertoire. This unit will also focus on further development of individual performance skills with an emphasis on presentation. To meet the participation criteria students must pass the Technical Proficiency Level 2 Exam.

Prerequisite Rule

Students must pass MUS2305

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate proficient instrumental technique on the students principal instrument.
  2. Demonstrate the technical and interactive skills required to construct improvised solos across the appropriate repertoire.
  3. Further develop the skills to evaluate musical performances.
  4. Interpret ensemble repertoire.
  5. Maintain an effective practice routine.

Unit Content

  1. Ensemble core repertoire.
  2. Intermediate jazz stylistic concepts, techniques and interaction methods.
  3. Intermediate scales and arpeggios.
  4. Intermediate sight-reading exercises.
  5. Recording presentation related to second year jazz performance assessment.

Learning Experience

Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU Blackboard.

GS1 GRADING SCHEMA 1 Used for standard coursework units

Students please note: The marks and grades received by students on assessments may be subject to further moderation. All marks and grades are to be considered provisional until endorsed by the relevant Board of Examiners.

Due to the professional competency skill development associated with this Unit, student attendance/participation within listed in-class activities and/or online activities including discussion boards is compulsory. Students failing to meet participation standards as outlined in the unit plan may be awarded an I Grade (Fail - incomplete). Students who are unable to meet this requirement for medical or other reasons must seek the approval of the unit coordinator.
