Jazz improvisation techniques of the Bebop and Post-bop are studied in this unit in order to develop student facility in the technical and stylistic aspects of improvisation. Ensemble repertoire will be used to provide a basis for these improvisations, with both harmonic and rhythmic aspects of improvisation being considered.

Complex harmonic forms from the bebop period will be used to provide a basis for these improvisations, with harmonic and rhythmic aspects of improvisation being applied.
