Description

This unit extends students' instrumental, interpretive and technical skills to an intermediate level. Contemporary Music styles will be studied and students will be begin to plan and manage a practice and performance repertoire. The unit will focus on the continued development of individual performance skills with an emphasis on presentation.

Prerequisite Rule

Students must pass 1 units from MUS1427

Equivalent Rule

Unit was previously coded MUS2405

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Critically evaluate musical performances.
  2. Demonstrate acceptable progress in instrumental technique (on their principle instrument), at technical level two.
  3. Demonstrate acceptable progress towards memorising and interpreting the year two core repertoire.
  4. Perform solos in an appropriate context.

Unit Content

  1. Core repertoire.
  2. Intermediate interaction methods.
  3. Intermediate practice conventions and instrumental roles.
  4. Interpretive and aesthetic techniques appropriate to the Contemporary Music genre.
  5. Performance presentation from a practical and critical perspective.
  6. Technical studies.

Students please note: The marks and grades received by students on assessments may be subject to further moderation. All marks and grades are to be considered provisional until endorsed by the relevant School Progression Panel.

Due to the professional competency skill development associated with this Unit, student attendance/participation within listed in-class activities and/or online activities including discussion boards is compulsory. Students failing to meet participation standards as outlined in the unit information may be awarded an I Grade (Fail - incomplete). Students who are unable to meet this requirement for medical or other reasons must seek the approval of the unit coordinator.

Cheating in an exam

Using or having access to unauthorised materials in an exam or test.

Serious outcomes may be imposed if a student is found to have committed one of these breaches, up to and including expulsion from the University for repeated or serious acts.
