Description

Students continue to develop and extend their ensemble performance experience through more complex and extensive performance repertoire. More confident, expressive and convincing performances are expected as students build their skills in ensemble playing, teamwork, concert presentation and professional etiquette. A critical and analytical approach to ensemble performance is encouraged.

Prerequisite Rule

Students must pass 1 units from MUS2426

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

1. Perform confidently and convincingly in a music ensemble involving more complex rehearsals and performance repertoire.
2. Use listening and performance skills to communicate expressively in music ensemble performance.
3. Perform effectively within an ensemble performance, accurately sight read, and interpret and analyse written music.
4. Display a critical and analytical approach to music ensemble performance.

Unit Content

1. Core repertoire (Level 2).
2. Assigned public performance during the semester.
3. Ensemble playing skills.
4. Rehearsal conventions and instrumental roles.
5. Interpreting and applying aesthetic techniques appropriate to style.
6. Intermediate improvisation and interaction methods.

Learning Experience

Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU Blackboard.

Additional Learning Experience Information

All ensembles perform at least once in public during the semester, either in the University or in the wider community. Students will be required to work in an ensemble to produce and perform musical works. They will be required to engage in constant communication with each other about technical and stylistic issues. Students will be provided with opportunities to practise their performance and/or improvisation skills, with feedback from their peers and their ensemble director.
