Description

This unit continues to develop fundamental interpretive and technical skills on an instrument (or voice type) of the student's choice. Repertoire is performed from a variety of historical periods in a stylistically appropriate manner. The student continues to develop strengths in performance, criticism, and repertoire knowledge as it relates to their instrument/vocal area. Individual performance skills will be studied with an emphasis on presentation.

Prerequisite Rule

Students must pass 1 units from MUS1513

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate interpretative ability in repertoire in a range of styles.
  2. Demonstrate technical proficiency and interpretative ability on their instrument/voice type at technical level three.
  3. Evaluate musical performances.
  4. Perform in a solo setting.

Unit Content

  1. Level three sight-reading.
  2. Level three solo repertoire.
  3. Level three technical exercises (scales, arpeggios etc.).
  4. Performance criticism.
  5. Performing in front of an audience of the student's peers.
  6. The repertoire and history of the student's instrument/vocal type.

Learning Experience

Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU Blackboard.

Description

This unit consolidates the technical and interpretative skills required for successful performance. Students plan and manage a practice and performance repertoire, performing sensitively in a variety of genres and styles. Through lessons, workshops and concert practice classes students learn to critically appraise their own performance and the performance of others. Students take a proactive role in relation to choice of repertoire and individual expression, using their initiative to master technical and interpretative challenges demonstrated in performance.
