Description

This unit develops a range of practical skills necessary for a well-rounded keyboard performer. Through an integrated curriculum of sight-reading, improvisation, accompaniment and transposition, students acquire the confidence to use the piano in a number of practical situations.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Accompany ensembles.
  2. Improvise in a variety of styles.
  3. Sight-read with confidence.
  4. Transpose simple music.

  1. Improvisation of introductions, interludes and free preludes.
  2. Read from a chord chart.
  3. Reading in c clefs.
  4. Techniques of accompanying choirs.
  5. Techniques of sight reading.
  6. Transposition and score reading.
