Description

In this unit students will work with interactive multimedia, feedback and gesture-based systems, listen/learn systems, and develop a practical understanding of programming systems for the development of multimedia installation, and live interactive electroacoustic composition and performance. This unit centres all practical tutorials around the MaxMSP visual programming language.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Collaborate with other composers and performers in the presentation of original work.
  2. Complete programming tasks in the MaxMSP visual programming language.
  3. Demonstrate familiarity with interactive multimedia, feedback and gesture-based systems, listen/learn systems.
  4. Demonstrate skills in the direction of musical performances of original work.
  5. Present a multimedia installation, or live interactive electroacoustic composition and performance using MaxMSP.

Unit Content

  1. An introduction to Interactive Music.
  2. Creation of original music for specific media.
  3. Performance presentation from a practical and critical perspective.
  4. Rehearsal conventions and instrumental roles.
