Description

In this unit, students will apply their knowledge of advanced music theory within a contemporary music context. The student will demonstrate the application of complex theoretical concepts through an examination of key contemporary musical elements. Over the course of the unit, the student should demonstrate the acquisition of advanced music theory concepts.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Analyse and apply advanced melodic and harmonic devices.
  2. Discriminate and apply advanced theoretical concepts in written and recorded formats.
  3. Display an understanding of advanced rhythmic concepts.
  4. Implement advanced music theory skills.

Unit Content

  1. Advanced meter and basic rhythmic concepts.
  2. Complex harmonic concepts.
  3. Music theory and notation at an advanced level.
  4. Recognition and application of studied material to selected songs.
  5. Relevant analytical systems.

Additional Learning Experience Information

Lectures, workshops and rehearsal.
