This unit further develops skills of aural training, music theory, harmony, counterpoint, and keyboards skills as related to the music of the Romantic period and 20th Century. The unit also focuses on modal world music. The unit also provides a basic introduction to pitch and rhythm systems of the 20th Century, including non-Western systems of music. Commonalities and specialities of a variety of different musical conventions will be examined. Students learn to deal intelligently with various kinds of music and to function more effectively as performers, composers, analysts, and sensitive listeners.
