Description

In this unit students will be required to demonstrate a practical knowledge of music production with the aim of further understanding the role of the music producer. Skills and knowledge previously acquired in psychoacoustics, music aural and theory, music composition, recording, mixing, and mastering will now be relevant for the producer. Students will be responsible for pre-production, time management, talent liaising and intellectual property management. Students will also cover advanced production techniques, particularly modern editing techniques, including commercially driven mixing, multi-take recording, comping, creative mixing techniques, pre-mastering considerations, and the final master.

Prerequisite Rule

Students must pass 1 units from MUS3608

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Conduct multi-take recording, comping, creative mixing techniques, pre-mastering considerations and final mastering.
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of Sound Production techniques.
  3. Demonstrate an understanding of the responsibilities of the producer in the recording production process.
