Description

In this unit students prepare for the presentation of a full-length public recital featuring significant works for their instrument or voice, and demonstrating a professional level of achievement. Students will demonstrate advanced instrumental, improvisational/interpretive and technical skills, addressing associated technical and interpretative challenges as necessary.

Prerequisite Rule

Students must pass 3 units from MUS3313, MUS3316, MUS3322

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Design and implement an appropriate recital program.
  2. Use initiative to master the repertoire and to develop 'their own sound' and/or musical personality.
  3. Apply relevant performance practices for studied repertoire.

Unit Content

  1. Further application of performance presentation techniques.
  2. Development of a personal voice.
  3. Interpretative and aesthetic techniques appropriate to the Jazz genre and the recital program.
  4. Advanced concepts, techniques and interaction methods relating to recital repertoire.
  5. Advanced sight-reading exercises.
  6. Advanced scales and arpeggios appropriate to repertoire under study.

Learning Experience

Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU Blackboard.

Additional Learning Experience Information

Individual and/or group lessons throughout the term, accompanied by regular instrumental/vocal workshops and weekly concert practice classes.

Students please note: The marks and grades received by students on assessments may be subject to further moderation. All marks and grades are to be considered provisional until endorsed by the relevant Board of Examiners.
