Description

This unit focuses on the refinement of instrumental and/or vocal skills through specialized large ensemble rehearsals and performances. Students utilize skills in sight-reading, interpretation and ensemble performance. Each student will audition for an ensemble place or participate in reading ensemble.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate stylistically appropriate skills in sight reading, interpreting and analysing written music.
  2. Demonstrate how listening can enhance performance of repertoire in a stylistically specific large ensemble.
  3. Display stylistic characteristics unique to a specialised large ensemble through collaboration.
  4. Display the skills to lead an ensemble through knowledge, leadership and collaboration.

Unit Content

  1. Discussion of ensemble techniques and stylistic considerations.
  2. Group rehearsal of repertoire.
  3. Individual practice of repertoire.
  4. Public performances of ensemble repertoire.

Learning Experience

Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU Blackboard.
