Description

This unit will concentrate on designing a recital program that will represent the culmination of the students undergraduate studies. A further study of advanced instrumental, improvisational, interpretive and technical skills will be a focus. The student will formulate an appropriate recital program and use initiative to master the repertoire, further developing their own sound. The unit will be centered on the continued development of the individuals performance skills with an emphasis on presentation and critical evaluation skills.

Prerequisite Rule

Students must pass 3 units from MUS4305, MUS4307, MUS4310

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate highly skilled instrumental technique in a recital performance context.
  2. Evaluate the outcome of recital performance.
  3. Further devise advanced jazz patterns on complex jazz forms.
  4. Perform arrangements of original works.
  5. Present and perform a recital.

Unit Content

  1. Advanced jazz stylistic concepts, techniques and interaction methods relating to recital repertoire.
  2. Application of performance presentation techniques.
  3. Development of a personal voice.
  4. Recital programming techniques.
  5. Recital repertoire.
