Description

This unit will concentrate on the study of specific professional-level advanced artistic performance techniques in Contemporary music. In particular, students will be exposed to complex rhythmic, harmonic and melodic elements necessary for professional creative music interpretation. The unit will also be centred on the continued development of performance skills with an emphasis on presentation and critical evaluation.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Critically evaluate professional-level interpretational and improvisational techniques.
  2. Demonstrate acceptable progress towards the acquisition of professional-level melodic, harmonic and rhythmic skills.
  3. Show awareness of specific professional-level creative concepts and techniques.
  4. Utilise vocal skills to reinforce creative practice.

  1. Advanced improvisation and interpretation techniques.
  2. Complex harmonic, melodic and rhythmic concepts.
  3. Implementation and recognition of material in recorded examples.
  4. Vocalisation techniques.
