Description

In this unit students will demonstrate a high level of instrumental skills through ensemble rehearsals and public performances. Students will also demonstrate developed skills in ensemble playing at an advanced level. The development of leadership skills in an ensemble setting, along with the demonstration of readiness to enter the professional music industry, will be focal points. Each student will also demonstrate advanced levels of musicianship as a result of the culmination of individual programs of study from levels one to three.

Prerequisite Rule

Students must pass 1 units from MUS4406

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Apply musical skills to a range of projects.
  2. Articulate salient ideas/concepts/practices from an area outside or complimentary to their discipline area.
  3. Demonstrate and implement musical skills at level three.
  4. Demonstrate strong ensemble leadership skills.
  5. Demonstrate the ability to apply professional management skills required to operate within the professional music industry.

Unit Content

  1. Assigned public performance during the semester.
  2. Cross-discipline experience where applicable.
  3. Ensemble playing skills: phrasing; dynamics; articulation and interpretation of the designated repertoire from diverse international sources.
  4. Music enrichment activities.
  5. Music industry professional management skills.
  6. Project organisation and collaborative learning methods.

Learning Experience

Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU Blackboard.
