Description

The aim of this unit is to develop skills for thinking about and articulating ideas about compositional practice in contemporary society. The context in which you perform, listen to and compose music is very much part of your culture and time, and this module will provide an introduction to the current thought in regard to concepts of aesthetics, and cultural theory as they apply to contemporary music practice.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Articulate and understanding of compositional practice in contemporary society.
  2. Situate their own practice in relation to current thought in regard to concepts of aesthetics, and cultural theory.

Unit Content

  1. An introduction to Aesthetics and Cultural Theory.
  2. Evaluation of the students compositional practice.
