This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to develop basic acting skills associated with performing in a single- or multi-camera production environment. It requires the ability to demonstrate a structured approach to performing a role as an actor, whilst applying and adapting performance skills. Using a structured approach whilst performing a role on screen. Actors will develop a basic level of expertise in performing to camera through practice of technical skills and rehearsals. Actors are expected to include acting, dance and voice into the performance, incorporating Indigenous culture and concepts to increase employability outcomes. The unit applies to film and television actors in the performing arts industry. No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

The learner must show evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the job role. There must be demonstrated evidence that the learner has completed the following tasks: rehearsed and performed acting techniques in a film and television environment, on two occasions incorporated feedback and made appropriate adjustments to the second recorded performance reviewed and discussed their own performance, reflecting on the role through text-based character analysis worked collaboratively and constructively with performers, directors and crew personnel for film and television prepared self for role according to director.
The learner must be able to demonstrate essential knowledge required to effectively do the task outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage the task and manage contingencies in the context of the work role. This includes knowledge of: key personnel for film and television how to respond to different styles of text protocols and conventions appropriate to the context of film and television the needs of the film and television audience.
Assessment must be in the form of: direct observation of the candidate in rehearsal and performance direct questioning on the basic skills of acting to camera combined with rehearsal and review third-party reports on performances (this will include reports from guests/visiting artists/directors) direct observation of a filmed performance Both practical skills and knowledge must be assessed. Simulated assessment environments must simulate the real-life performance environment with access to all the relevant venues, equipment and resources of those performance environments. Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment, where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in creative arts industry environments. Using or having access to unauthorised materials in an exam or test.
Serious outcomes may be imposed if a student is found to have committed one of these breaches, up to and including expulsion from the University for repeated or serious acts.
