Description

This unit will enable students to understand their future role as a Registered Nurse within the Australian health care system both in its current state; and as it adjusts to the changing Australian demographic. In order to achieve this, students will need to understand the role of the Registered Nurse as bound by professional regulation, and how this relates to other nursing and health professional roles. This unit will introduce the need to work within interprofessional teams in order to provide effective and efficient services in a manner that is responsive to the changing health care needs of the Australian population.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Access and utilise information about nurse regulation to inform decision making in practice.
  2. Describe the necessary requirements for effective team work and its contribution to interprofessional practice.
  3. Describe the role of the nurse as a member of the multidisciplinary team in the health service industry.
  4. Explain the relationship between self- regulation and their responsibilities of accountability and autonomy.
  5. Reflect upon their future role as a Registered Nurse in response to the changing health care needs of a population.

  8. Scope of Nursing Practice for the Registered Nurse.
  9. Teams and teamwork.
  10. The Australian Health Care System.
