This unit will enable students to understand their future role as a Registered Nurse within the Australian health care system both in its current state; and as it adjusts to the changing Australian demographic. In order to achieve this, students will need to understand the role of the Registered Nurse as bound by professional regulation, and how this relates to other nursing and health professional roles. This unit will introduce the need to work within interprofessional teams in order to provide effective and efficient services in a manner that is responsive to the changing health care needs of the Australian population.

Students will engage in learning experiences through ECU Blackboard as well as additional ECU learning technologies.
In this unit, students access and use a variety of digital learning materials to prepare for and engage in class discussion and learning activities. Group discussion and analysis of case studies and audio visual materials in both face-to-face and online formats, allow development of analytical and decision making skills and provide opportunities to recognise scope of practice.
