Description

The broad intent of this unit is to support students to develop self-direction and competence in a new area of practice. Students will consider reflective practice, nursing governance, scopes of practice and professional development. Having developed an understanding of assessing and addressing the requirements of a new practice area, students will apply these concepts within this specialised field.

Prerequisite Rule

Students must pass NPP2201.

Only students studying courses C33, Y61, Y76, Y19 or Y79 can enrol in this unit.

Equivalent Rule

Unit was previously coded NST3206, NST3207, NST3604

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Assess the requirements of an area of nursing practice that they are unfamiliar with.
  2. Develop a learning plan to address areas of deficit to operate effectively within a new area of practice.
  3. Implement a learning plan and document performance outcomes.
  4. Evaluate the effectiveness of their personal learning plan.

Additional Learning Experience Information

Learning materials are delivered in blended mode using Interactive Learning Activities (ILA's) and online communication tools. Students participate in group discussion and learning activities, reflective practices and self assessment tools are used to prepare for their future professional career. Presentation skills are practiced as part of professional skills development.
