Description

This unit facilitates the transition from the role of nursing student to Registered Nurse. Emphasis is placed on factors that contribute to the scope of practice of Registered Nurses in Australia, initial employment, including leadership and management skills, as well as the obligations in maintaining registration and professional competence.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Construct a continued professional competence/development plan.
  2. Construct an application for a position that utilises sound argument and is supported by evidence.
  3. Describe the professional corporate and clinical governance structures that define the role of the Registered Nurse.
  4. Develop a personal plan of entry to practice.
  5. Explore the aspects of role transition for the novice Registered Nurse.

  1. Applying for a position, application framing, writing plus interview.
  2. Changing roles in nursing.
  3. Continuing competence & performance appraisal.
  4. Framing and substantiating an argument of competence.
  5. Professional development and specialisation.
  6. Professional, corporate and clinical governance structures.
  7. Reality shock and reflective practice.

Additional Learning Experience Information

This unit will use lectures and tutorials to facilitate student learning.
