Description

This unit is designed to facilitate the students' ability of evaluation and critical enquiry. The students will develop a critical review of the literature within their specialty area, which will inform their work based project.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate a high level of skill in information retrieval, critical review and evaluation of the literature.
  2. Develop a summation of the literature and demonstrate the applicability of their findings to their area of practice.
  3. Reflect upon their learning needs and produce a critical review of relevant literature in relation to their area of practice and role development.
  4. Synthesise information pertaining to their area of practice through the critical review and identification of gaps in the literature.

Unit Content

  1. Conducting a search of the literature.
  2. Critical analysis of sources identified.
  3. Identifying gaps in the literature and demonstrate potential application to practice.
  4. Research design.
  5. Systematic reviews and meta analyses.
  6. Writing a literature review.
