Description

This unit will advance students' understanding of contemporary issues that influence nursing practice and their application to speciality areas. The theoretical frameworks for advanced nursing practice, including ethical and legal decision making and scope of advanced practice will be explored. National and international health care trends, policy development and health services relevant to the population will be examined.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Analyse and evaluate the scope of advanced practice and the legal issues that may arise in nursing practice, including health practitioner and patient legal liabilities and rights.
  2. Analyse the influence of philosophical, historical, social and cross cultural factors in the development of the role of the nurse in specialist practice.
  3. Appraise different frameworks of professional practice in the provision of health care within the inter-professional team.
  4. Evaluate contemporary issues in health care delivery and the impact of these on nursing.
  5. Evaluate ethical issues which may arise including ethical problem solving techniques.

  3. Evolution of the nurse practitioner role within Australian health care.
  4. Models for health care delivery.
  5. Professional development in nursing.
  6. The scope of advanced practice relating to specialist nursing care.

Lectures, seminars, workshops,case studies, online modules and online tutorials.
