Description

This final practice unit facilitates students to demonstrate nursing knowledge and skills learned throughout the course. The focus of the unit is on teamwork, prioritisation, communication and clinical leadership. Students will incorporate critical thinking and clinical reasoning in their decision-making and delivery of care to patients. Students will work in various health facilities to demonstrate professionalism and competency of a stage six student in the workplace setting.

Prerequisite Rule

Students must pass 2 units from NPP3101 or NPU3505 and NSC2203 or NUM2409

Only students studying courses C33, Y61 or Y76 can enrol in this unit.

Equivalent Rule

Unit was previously coded NPP3201

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Analyse and interpret clinical findings to determine appropriate management strategies.
  2. Collaborate effectively with health care team to respond appropriately to a diverse range of clinical scenarios.
  3. Prioritise potential health care changes and develop appropriate nursing strategies.
  4. Reflect on their personal attitudes, knowledge, skill and abilities in relation to managing complex scenarios in a culturally and developmentally appropriate manner.
  5. Demonstrate professional competency in the workplace setting in accordance with the NMBA RN standards for practice relevant to the stage six scope of practice.

  1. Provision of nursing care for patients with complex conditions.
  2. Ward scenarios.
  3. Clinical reasoning.
  4. Cultural competence.
  5. Teamwork, prioritisation, communication and clinical leadership.

Learning Experience

Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU Blackboard.

Due to the professional competency skill development associated with this Unit, student attendance/participation within listed in-class activities and/or online activities including discussion boards is compulsory. Students failing to meet participation standards as outlined in the unit plan may be awarded an I Grade (Fail - incomplete). Students who are unable to meet this requirement for medical or other reasons must seek the approval of the unit coordinator.

This is a designated unit, which means only one attempt is allowed.
