Description

This unit focuses on enhancing students' practice development by augmenting clinical decision making and problem solving skills. Students will enhance their understanding of evidence based principles and develop an understanding of change management. Theoretical principles relevant to area of clinical specialisation will be reinforced during clinical practicum.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Analyse current health practices to determine the need for change.
  2. Apply advanced theoretical knowledge in area of clinical specialisation.
  3. Apply and analyse research findings within area of clinical specialisation.
  4. Display clinical and cultural competence within area of clinical specialisation.
  5. Implement a quality improvement area in their area of clinical specialisation.

Unit Content

  1. Culturally responsive nursing practice.
  2. Current research and principles of evidence based practice.
  3. Initiate therapeutic relationships and the wider population.
  4. Issues relevant to the role of advanced nursing practice.
  5. Principles of leadership in the clinical setting.
  6. Quality assurance initiatives including clinical audit.
  7. Reflective practice.
  8. Specialist nursing and collaborative management of patients with dynamic and altered physiology.

Additional Learning Experience Information

Online delivery of modules, tutorials and discussion boards.
