Description

This unit facilitates the transition from the role of a student to registered nurse and/or midwife. Emphasis is placed on preparing for initial employment as a registered nurse and/or midwife and the expected challenges and opportunities that exist in the professions and workplace.

Prerequisite Rule

Students must pass Nursing Practice 3 (NPU2303), Mental Health and Wellbeing in Clinical Practice (NUM2307) and Chronic Conditions and Supportive Care (FCA2303) or students must have completed 240 credit points.

Students studying in the Bachelor of Science (Nursing) or the Bachelor of Science (Nursing)/Bachelor of Science (Midwifery).

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Review the principles of quality improvement and risk management within clinical practice.
  2. Identify career opportunities and employability skills.
  3. Apply clinical knowledge to the principles of evidence-based nursing and/or midwifery care.
  4. Reflect on the challenges and strategies required for managing role transition from student to beginning practitioner.
  5. Demonstrate effective interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills used in a clinical context.

Contract cheating

Organising a friend, a family member, another student or an external person or organisation (e.g. through an online website) to complete or substantially edit or refine part or all of an assessment task(s) on their behalf.

Cheating in an exam

Using or having access to unauthorised materials in an exam or test.

Serious outcomes may be imposed if a student is found to have committed one of these breaches, up to and including expulsion from the University for repeated or serious acts.
