Description

This unit facilitates the transition for the role of nursing student to registered nurse. Emphasis is placed on preparing for initial employment as a registered nurse and the expected challenges and opportunities that exist in the workplace.

Prerequisite Rule

Students must pass 1 unit from NPP2201 or NPU2404

Only students studying courses C33, Y61or Y76 can enrol in this unit.

Equivalent Rule

Unit was previously coded NCS3202

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Develop relevant skills to prepare for the job application process to become a Registered Nurse.
  2. Utilise a professional portfolio to develop a professional development plan
  3. Discuss the challenges and appropriate strategies for managing role transition from nursing student to graduate registered nurse.

  3. Interview skills.
  4. Stressors / conflict.
  5. Coping strategies / conflict management.
  6. Professional Development Plan.
  7. Memberships – professional development.
  8. Transitioning from student to graduate nurse, culture shock.
  9. Bullying in the workplace – occupational health and safety issues.

Additional Learning Experience Information

Interactive learning activities (18 hours), tutorials (18 hours), online activities.
