This unit examines current community nutrition advice, materials and programs and the effect that political forces and marketing have on these processes. The relationships between nutrition intervention and community practice are examined in the context of learning theories, nutrition research, capacity building and sustainability.

In this unit, students conduct a program needs assessment within a community and develop an educational program to improve the nutrition awareness of key stakeholders. Students gain skills in planning and delivering evidence-based food education programs for culturally diverse populations and use digital media to promote good nutrition. This unit examines state and national community nutrition objectives and explores new and emerging issues in community nutrition and fosters ethical and sustainable decision making.
Students must have passed NUT1121.

Students apply creative thinking and digital literacy skills and work collaboratively to create educational resources and refine their interpersonal and verbal communication skills. Students work collaboratively to obtain information and create an education program for a community nutrition audience. Students complete an employability skills assessment to evaluate their personal strengths and capabilities, and reflect on their personal and professional development needs.
