This unit facilitates the development of skills required for basic quantitative and qualitative research and their application to nutrition/dietetics issues. Concepts and skills needed for the formulation of research questions, study design and evaluation techniques, are applied in terms of human nutrition enquiry. Students demonstrate research skills and knowledge, and prepare a nutrition/dietetics research proposal.
Students must have passed NUT5112, NUT5113 and NUT5115.

Students will undertake, and be assessed on, authentic activities through engagement with industry and community partners.
Students undertake an activity in collaboration or consultation with an industry partner but do not spend any time or only a very small amount of time (e.g. 1-2 short visits) in an actual workplace.
In this unit, students will develop basic skills in research design and data analysis, applying these skills to a nutrition and dietetics project. Students will work with a university supervisor and a workplace staff member in a hospital or community setting, to plan and develop a research proposal.

Students please note: The marks and grades received by students on assessments may be subject to further moderation. All marks and grades are to be considered provisional until endorsed by the relevant Board of Examiners.
Due to the professional competency skill development associated with this Unit, student attendance/participation within listed in-class activities and/or online activities including discussion boards is compulsory. Students failing to meet participation standards as outlined in the unit plan may be awarded an I Grade (Fail - incomplete). Students who are unable to meet this requirement for medical or other reasons must seek the approval of the unit coordinator.
