Description

This unit explores the application of advanced nutritional counselling skills, and provides the student with exposure to individual case management in an inter-professional setting. Advanced topics in community and public health nutrition will be explored within the unit.

Prerequisite Rule

Students must have passed NUT5114, NUT6101 and NUT6102.

Equivalent Rule

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Interpret medical case documentation in individual case management.
  2. Demonstrate the application of advanced nutritional counselling skills and inter-professional learning.
  3. Critically appraise the evidence-based practice in nutrition and dietetics.
  4. Critically evaluate contemporary issues in public health nutrition for individuals, populations and the food industry, where appropriate.

WIL - Service learning activities

Students will undertake, and be assessed on, authentic activities through engagement with industry and community partners.

Students undertake work in an off-campus or virtual environment which is focused on the student applying non-technical skills to meet a community need, supervised by an industry or community-based professional.

Additional Learning Experience Information

This unit will be delivered using technology enhanced learning, integrating face-to-face and digital experiences. Students will be required to access digital learning materials to prepare for their in-class workshop and tutorial activities. Students are provided with the opportunity to attend the Joondalup Community Clinical School to conduct counselling sessions with clients and connect with industry partners. Guest speakers are also included in this unit. Students are supported with development of their reflective practice, written and oral communication skills through learning activities and assessments.
