Description

In this unit students explore specific assessments and interventions to assist individuals to obtain, maintain or re-enter employment. Students learn how to identify workplace occupation requirements and develop graded return to work programs, workplace education programs and ergonomic interventions to promote occupational performance in the workplace. Students gain insights into Australian legislative requirements, risk assessment and injury prevention processes and further develop their professional reasoning and research skills.

Prerequisite Rule

Students must have passed OCT1205

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Design practices to improve the occupational and workplace outcomes of clients in collaboration with employers and the multi-disciplinary team.
  2. Apply theories, frameworks, and standardised measures of assessment to evaluate the occupational performance of individuals aiming to obtain, maintain or re-enter employment.
  3. Integrate occupational therapy theory and frameworks with current government legislation to provide occupational and workplace rehabilitation.
  4. Apply professional reasoning to communicate the occupational rehabilitation needs of culturally diverse clients to relevant stakeholders.

Additional Learning Experience Information

Students will be required to work both individually and in groups to analyse and apply research evidence and current policy in relation to case studies and return to work barriers. Guest presentations from industry representatives and networking with professionals working within the occupational rehabilitation sector, will enhance the learning experience.

Copying the words, ideas or creative works of other people or generative artificial intelligence tools, without referencing in accordance with stated University requirements. Unauthorised collaboration (collusion)

Working with other students and submitting the same or substantially similar work or portions of work when an individual submission was required. This includes students knowingly providing others with copies of their own work to use in the same or similar assessment task(s).

Contract cheating

Organising a friend, a family member, another student or an external person or organisation (e.g. through an online website) to complete or substantially edit or refine part or all of an assessment task(s) on their behalf.

Cheating in an exam

Using or having access to unauthorised materials in an exam or test.

Serious outcomes may be imposed if a student is found to have committed one of these breaches, up to and including expulsion from the University for repeated or serious acts.

Assessment Extension
