Description

The course will cover practical experience in the methods and techniques of Jazz Dance.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate Intermediate knowledge of various jazz styles Including i. Lyrical jazz ii. Hip Hop/Funk iii. Theatre jazz.
  2. Demonstrate competency in preparing and training the body for technique and production class.
  3. Demonstrate intermediate knowledge of jazz technique Including i. Turns ii. Leaps iii. Kicks iv. Floor work.
  4. Have an understanding of the basic history and the present day context to Jazz Dance.

Unit Content

  1. Production Class: (1.5 Hrs) : to view videos, explore, experiment with the different genres that make up Jazz. Includes ongoing progress on ensemble pieces.
  2. Technique Class: (1.5 hours): to train and maintain the body for dance. Includes work on strength, flexibility, technique amd style through warm-up, progression and routines.

Additional Learning Experience Information

Lectures, seminars and practical workshops.
