This unit further supports student progress towards a role as a professional paramedic. It focuses on increasing proficiency in the student's systematic approach to scene and patient assessment. It will enhance their skills in clinical decision making, emergency management processes and intermediate life support in the pre-hospital setting. The clinical techniques, skills approaches and problems solving required for professional paramedic practice will continue to be developed in a controlled, interdisicplinary environments.
Online students are advised that this unit has a compulsory workshop held at the Joondalup campus. The theory modules for this unit may however be studied online. On-campus and online students are required to undertake an external clinical placement as part of this unit.

Students failing to meet participation standards as outlined in the unit plan may be awarded an I Grade (Fail - incomplete). Students who are unable to meet this requirement for medical or other reasons must seek the approval of the unit coordinator.

This unit further supports student progress towards a role as a professional paramedic. Attendance at a 5-day on-campus intensive practical workshop will enable students to focus on increasing their proficiency in the standard paramedic approach to the assessment and treatment of sick and injured patients in the pre-hospital environment. It will continue to develop essential paramedic skills in clinical decision making and effective communication to ensure patient care is safe, clinically effective and socially and culturally adept in the pre-hospital setting. The application of professional paramedic standards, simulation based education and clinical reasoning activities will prepare students to assess and manage patients in the discipline of paramedicine.
Students may be required to attend evening or weekend classes.
Students must have passed PSP1108 and PST2102.
