This unit forms the foundation of the paramedicine course and prepares students for further academic study and placement.The unit develops interpersonal and interprofessional conduct and communication skills, teamwork and personal development through self-evaluation and reflection. Students will also be introduced to the skills required of professional paramedics. In this unit, students will begin to compile their course e-portfolio, which will allow them to track their learning and personal development against the paramedic competences in preparation for the workplace and future paramedic registration.

This unit forms the foundation of the paramedicine course and prepares students for industry placements and further academic study. Students will develop interpersonal and communication skills, as well as teamwork and collaboration capabilities, to equip them for professional paramedic practice. Students will learn about different cultures including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities. Students will also be introduced to personal development through self-evaluation and reflection activities. In this unit, students will begin to compile an e-portfolio, which will allow them to track their learning and personal development against the paramedic competences in preparation for the workplace and future paramedic registration.
Only students in K89 Bachelor of Science (Paramedical Science) may enrol into this unit.

Students will engage in learning experiences through ECU Blackboard as well as additional ECU learning technologies.
Weekly content includes generic skills, library skills, academic support, readings, reflections, team and independent activities. Students will have the opportunity to discuss research concepts, present ideas orally, analyse situations and outcomes in groups and to develop critical perspectives from written sources. Emphasis is placed on learning how to interpret information accurately and executing instructions correctly.
