Description

The aim of this unit is to develop research skills by assisting students to prepare and submit a research proposal for review and approval by the appropriate Ethics Committee. Students work with nominated supervisor(s) in developing the proposal. The research discussed in the proposal is then undertaken in further units in the degree.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Critically analyse the major issues in different approaches to research.
  2. Demonstrate an advanced understanding of the research process.
  3. Demonstrate competence in the use of basic and advanced data analysis techniques.
  4. Evaluate published research.
  5. Investigate appropriate research designs and analysis techniques to address a variety of research questions from different content areas in psychology.
  6. Prepare and submit a research proposal for review and approval by the appropriate Ethics Committee.

  1. Development of a research proposal supported by supervisor(s) and submission of the proposal for review and approval by the appropriate Ethics Committee.
  2. The research process from initial idea to finished thesis.
