Description

The aim of this unit is to develop research skills by assisting students to prepare and submit a research proposal for review and approval by the appropriate Ethics Committee. Students work with nominated supervisor(s) in developing the proposal. The research discussed in the proposal is then undertaken in further units in the course.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Critically evaluate and synthesise theoretical and empirical literature to formulate a research question relevant to clinical psychology.
  2. Design a scientifically and ethically sound methodology for investigating a research question relevant to clinical psychology.
  3. Appraise ethical issues and develop strategies to conduct research in accordance with national and professional ethical codes.
  4. Communicate a proposal to investigate a research question in appropriate language in written and oral formats.

Unit Content

  1. Development of a research proposal supported by supervisor(s) and submission of the proposal for review and approval by the appropriate Ethics Committee.
  2. The research process from initial idea to finished thesis.
