Description

The aim of this unit is to provide training in advanced psychopathology. Students will be trained in assessment and treatment of complex adult clinical problems including: Bipolar Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and Psychosis. Additionally, theoretical concepts in psychopathology will be examined including, eclecticism, evidence based practice, as well as background of some models like: Schema Therapy, Dialectical behaviour Therapy, Psychoanalytically based approaches, and Transdiagnostic approaches to psychopathology.

Prerequisite Rule

Students must pass 1 unit from PSY5198, PSY5211

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Plan and implement a psychological intervention for a range of complex psychological disorders.
  2. Demonstrate a critical understanding of the theoretical and empirical bases for the interventions studied.
  3. Evaluate complex comorbidity patterns involving severe psychological disorders in adults.
  4. Discuss differences in intervention plans based on particular disorders.

  2. Evidence based approach of psychological problems.
  3. Bipolar Disorder.
  4. Borderline Personality Disorder.
  5. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder disorders.

Lectures, Seminars and Case reports prepared by students from their first clinical practicum.
