Description

The aim of this unit is to provide training in assessment, formulation and treatment of complex adult psychological clinical problems with comorbid presentations. This will include application of diagnostic taxonomies, critical evaluation of relevant theories and evidence-based intervention strategies, and information about psychopharmacology. Interprofessional collaboration within organisational systems in the context of clients with complex presentations will be a focus of the unit.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Critically appraise the theoretical and empirical bases for the interventions studied.
  2. Plan a psychological intervention for a range of complex psychological disorders.
  3. Develop an interprofessional collaboration plan for clients with complex presentations.

Unit Content

  1. Assessment, diagnosis, formulation and intervention for clients with complex psychopathologies.
  2. Psychopharmacology for clinical psychology.
  3. Interprofessional collaboration and multidisciplinary care in the context of complex disorders.

Case discussions integrating students own clinical practicum experiences. Guest lecturers from industry with a focus on inter-professional collaboration. Active participation in simulated practice activities in class is required.
